Ok. First of all I believe that mamey Zapote and mamey Sapote are the same thing.  So I came across this fruit called a sapote yesterday in the supermarket. I had tried a shake (batida) of sapote before, but I had never actually eaten the fruit. So, I though I would give it a try.
I decided to sample the fruit and see if I could germinate some seeds. So this is going to be a post about how to grow mamey sapote. Don’t get me wrong, I am no expert. I am going to be finding out how to grow sapote as I go along.  First of all let me say, this is an interesting fruit. It kind of reminded me of a baked sweet potato in color, taste, and texture. Of course, the fruit was cold because it had been in my refrigerator.

Here is a video of my opening it and tasting the fruit, complete with my initial reaction.

Would you look at these seeds! They have been described as looking like a clam or muscle, and I agree.  These are some of the coolest seeds I have ever seen. I got two of them out of my zapote.

I planted the seeds today. We will see what happens. I will update when it becomes clear what is going to happen.
